- I had to do this once for a logo for my old high school. I first made the
- text object, which was CPC. I then made a plane that was the dimensions
- of my text and saved both as seperate objects. SSSSSSSSSSI loaded both
- into the Layout and positioned the box directly over the letters. I then
- added the light to make the lense flare. , which was parented to the box
- (you might have to mover the pivot point of the box so the flare is at the
- end it. The surfaces for the box was set to completly black (I don't
- recall the swttings -- it was a while ago...), something like Diffusion
- and Spec. set to 0 so you couldn't see it even if a light was aimed at it.
- STSo make it all work, all SI had to do was move the box sideways. As it
- moved, the box uncovered the letters and since the flare was right over
- the edge of the box, the letters appeared to be "drawn" from behind the flare.
-
- I, however, was using a black BG, so this was easy. If you have a REAL
- bg, you could either front-projection map the box or -- probobly better
- yet -- use a moving transparency or clip map over the letters. Just slide
- the map in time with the lens flare.
-
- An example in the SSToaster manual or something like that tells how to use the
- grid effect to make a transparency thing (I think it's a surface). It's
- something like the letters to have a grid transparency (or maybe clip?)
- map, and make the grid size and line thickness (?) the size of the widest
- point of the letters. Set the texture value to 100% and the transparency
- value (in the surfaces menu) to 0%. All you have to do then is move the
- texture falloff from on end of the object to the other (or possibly just
- move the texture itself over -- the falloff method is probably better).
- As the falloff is reduced, the letters will become more solid. Sync a
- lens flare to it, and you're set!
-
- Hope this helps. I was doing it off the top of my head so it may be a bit
- confussing -- let me know...
